Camera notice in the mail
A red light camera "Notice of Violation" is $158. Camera violations don't put points on your license. If the notice isn't paid or contested within 60 days, it becomes a uniform traffic citation, which costs more.
Someone else was driving?
If your car was rented or leased, stolen, or in someone else's care, the owner can usually send an affidavit saying so. A stolen car needs a police report. The deadlines are short, so don't wait.
Ticket from a police officer
A red light ticket written by an officer is 4 points on your license. You usually have 30 days to pay, choose traffic school (if you qualify) or ask for a hearing.
