Points for speeding in Florida

  • Up to 15 mph over the limit: 3 points

  • More than 15 mph over: 4 points

  • Speeding that causes a crash: 6 points

Points stay on your driving record. Too many in a short time can lead to a suspension. For example, 12 points in 12 months can mean up to 30 days without a license.

You have 30 days to act

After a speeding ticket you usually have 30 days to pay it, sign up for traffic school (if you qualify) or ask for a court hearing. If you do nothing, your license can be suspended.

Is traffic school enough?

Traffic school can keep the points off your record, but you can only choose it once every 12 months and 8 times in your life, and you still pay the fine. It isn't available to CDL holders or for 30 mph or more over the limit.

30 mph or more over the limit

These tickets need a court hearing. You can't just pay them. Call before your court date.
