Suspended License and D6 Suspensions

If you didn't pay a ticket or missed a court date, your Florida license can be suspended. This is often called a "D6" suspension. Driving on a suspended license can turn a simple ticket into a criminal charge, so it's worth taking care of fast.

Why licenses get suspended

  • Not paying a traffic ticket on time

  • Missing a court date

  • Too many points (for example, 12 points in 12 months)

  • Other reasons, like insurance or child support (call and ask)

Driving while suspended

If you didn't know your license was suspended, driving on it is usually a non-criminal ticket. If you knew, it's a criminal misdemeanor.

How a D6 gets cleared

Usually the original ticket or court case has to be taken care of first: paid, set for a hearing, or reopened with a motion. Then the suspension can be cleared, and there may be fees to reinstate your license.
